Leicester City manager Sven-Goran Eriksson has confirmed that he has been in touch with Owen Hargreaves’ agent but admits the move is “on ice”.

Injury-ravaged Hargreaves is a free agent after his Manchester United contract expired and Eriksson is keen to link up again with the player he previously worked with for England.

Eriksson told skysports.com: “Yes, in one way we have tried to contact him. I’ve spoken to the agent now.

“It depends totally on Owen – the ball is in his court.

“It is difficult that he wants to come to the Championship and I am not sure he is 100 per cent fit at the moment, so right now it is on ice.

“I don’t even know if he is fit or if he wants to play but if he wants to speak to us, we are more than willing.”

Hargreaves recently posted several videos on YouTube to prove his fitness with a series of training drills.

Premier League side West Brom are also reportedly interested in the former Bayern Munich man.

But Hargreaves may be tempted by the prospect of reuniting with Eriksson, who introduced him into the England international set-up in 2001.
