Michael Dawson is hoping that Luka Modric will stay at Tottenham this summer rather than move to rivals Chelsea.
The influential Croatian playmaker has publicly stated that he wants to be allowed to leave for Stamford Bridge but Spurs chairman Daniel Levy insists the sale will not happen.
“This time of year there are always going to be rumours and Luka’s been linked with Chelsea,” club captain Dawson told Sky Sports News.
“From a team’s point of view you want to keep your best players and the chairman has come out and said he is going to keep him so that is great for the football club.
“We are all friends with Luka, we have got great team spirit amongst the players and we want to keep that together.
“The chairman has come out and said no-one is for sale so that’s great.”
Dawson also made it clear that Spurs will be aiming to break back into the Premier League top four this season, having missed out on Champions League qualification in 2010-11.
“We are striving to be in top four next season and that is our aim,” he said.
“We did it two seasons ago, it was a fantastic campaign we had last year and unfortunately it is not to be this year.
“Our aim in the Premier League this year is to be in the top four again.”
And the 27-year-old is anticipating a foray into the transfer market for manager Harry Redknapp this summer.
“You always want to improve the squad, but if you look at the squad it’s a top, top squad,” the former Nottingham Forest man added.
“You always want to improve and freshen things up and I am sure the manager and chairman will be looking to do that.”
