A man yesterday admitted in a Thika court to burying a foetus. Paul Kariuki said Naomi Mumbi who aborted the foetus told him to bury it. Mumbi also died after the abortion.
The court remanded Kariuki following a successful application by prosecutor chief inspector Josephine Wambua. Wambua said the investigating officer should furnish the court with evidence of what caused the death of the foetus. She said a postmortem report was required. “The circumstance under which the foetus and the mother died are unclear,” she told senior resident magistrate,” Leticia Wachira.
The case will be mentioned on July 18. Earlier, Kariuki had admitted burying the foetus on June 8 at Mithi, Murang’a County. The prosecution said Mumbi, 20, went to Karuiki’s house and told him she was not feeling well and requested him to spend the night at his house.
At night, she allegedly developed severe abdominal pains. Kariuki said in the morning, he found the foetus beside Mumbi. He said Mumbi told him to bury the foetus. Police retrieved the foetus and, together with Mumbi’s body, took it to Thika district hospital.
