THE Zambia Amateur Athletics Association (ZAAA) raked in K630 million during the 2011 Sandvick Inter Company Relay (ICR) held in Lusaka last weekend.

ICR organising committee communications and marketing manger Stella Mumbi-Omara described the ICR, held under the theme “Run For Wellness, Peace and Unity – By Acting Together We Can Win”, as successful.

She said her association raised an extra K330 million after an expenditure of K300 million.

Omara said in a statement that recognition awards were given to the First Lady Thandiwe Banda, who was guest of honour and Sandvick Mining and Construction Limited, ZSIC, ZNBC, Multi-Choice Zambia for their consistent sponsorship of the ICR.

She said ZAAA president Elias Mpondela was honoured with the champions of wellness in Zambia by Sandvick and was also awarded for being the founder of the ICR by the organising committee.

Selfless service awards went to Joe Nkhuwa, Professor Nkandu Luo and Kavwanga Yambayamba with the dedicated service award going to Kelvin Kasanga and Kezzias Nyendwa. The Amayenge band was awarded for their consistent partnership while the corporate championship award went to John Oberg.

Omara said ICR partners in the health fraternity were on hand promoting the spirit of a multi-sectoral response to health with the various activities which also included setting up Voluntary Counselling and Testing (VCT) tents.

“We would like to thank all our sponsors and partners, without whom this exciting sporting event would not have succeeded,” she said.
