A 28-year old man from Kimuri trading centre in Kieni West district was on Thursday night struck dead by lightning. Gichuki Wachiuri was seeking shelter from heavy rains at the trading centre when the tragedy occurred. He died on arrival at Mary Immaculate Mission Hospital in Mweiga.
Three others who were also struck by lightning during the incident are recuperating at Nyahururu District Hospital where they were admitted in serious condition. Heavy rains with hailstorms had pounded the area for over three hours before the tragedy.
Nyeri Police Boss Kirunya Limbitu said among those admitted at the hospital is a mother Jedidah Nyawira and her daughter Nancy Warigia. Residents said they have not witnessed such heavy rains in the recent past.
