Kenya: Cardinal Otunga Host Sprite Slam Today

The third edition of the Sprite Slam basketball tournament start today at Cardinal Otunga High School, Mosocho in Kisii. More than 40 teams have confirmed participation in the competition, which will be played on knock-out basis with the main focus on dunking, shooting, random shots and 3 point games.

Teams will be clustered in 3 categories this -Under-16, ladies only, and an Open category reserved for the first 16 teams to be registered on site. The Sprite Slam Tour, which targets the 16 to 24 year age group, is sanctioned by the Kenya Basketball Federation. It’s competitive nature provides young basketball players with a rewarding experience and previous tours have seen young talent benefit from coaching clinics and basketball tours.

This year, the Sprite Slam Tour will cover six regions. After Kisii, the action moves to Kisumu on July 9, then Eldoret on July 16, Other tours will be Nairobi (July 23), Mombasa (July 30) and Nyeri (August 6). The national finals, bringing together winning teams from each of the six regions is scheduled to take place in Nairobi on August 13. Kenya will then host the East African Sprite Slam finals on August 27. National finalists from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Mozambique will compete against each other for the top spot.
