Dar es Salaam — Rejuvenated Simba inched closer to the quarterfinals of this year’s Kagame Castle Cup with a 2-0 win over Rwanda’s Enticelles in a Group A match at the National Stadium yesterday. The victory, the second for the Msimbazi Reds in three games, means they now lead the five-team group with seven points, one ahead of Ocean View of Zanzibar and Eritrea’s Red Sea.

Playmaker Haruna Moshi and striker Mussa Hassan Mgosi scored a goal apiece to give their team the convincing win and send the Rwandan team packing.

Simba won the battle in the midfield with Mohamed Banka, Shija Mkina, Salum Machaku and Athuma Idd dictating the pace of the game. They could have gone one up in the 15th minute when Moshi broke through, only to see his shot narrowly miss the target.

Two minutes later, Banka fluffed another easy chance for Simba when his close range effort went a few centimetres wide.Moshi redeemed himself after 22 minutes when he reacted swiftly to a rebound by Banka to place it past goalkeeper Kibamba Erick.

Earlier, Etincelles had missed two chances in the 18th and 20th minutes, the culprits being Muhire Claver and Harorimana Dieu.On resumption, Simba started where they had left off and made it 2-0 in the 75th minute through substitute Mgosi, a few minutes after coming in for Athuman Idd.

In another Group A match, Red Sea of Eritrea squeezed a 1-0 win over Burundi’s Vital’O at the same venue.

The all-important goal for the Eritrean side came in the 32nd minute through striker Biniam Fisemaye.
