Craig Bellamy is one of a number of players set to be frozen out by Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini, according to the Daily Mail.
Bellamy, as well as Wayne Bridge, Emmanuel Adebayor and Shaun Wright-Phillips, will be made to train away from the first-team squad when pre-season starts on Tuesday and look set to miss the club’s tour of America at the end of July.
The Wales international has been strongly linked with a move away from Eastlands this summer after spending last season on loan at Cardiff City, with Celtic reportedly hoping to beat Sunderland, West Ham and Newcastle to his signature.
In an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport last week, Mancini outlined his joy in managing a Premier League club and gave insight into potential replacements for the out-of-favour players.
“I work on the training ground, but I also like the responsibility you get in England of participating actively in the life of the club,” Mancini said.
“I speak to lawyers, managers and am involved in negotiations for players.
“After 30 years in Italy, being in England has enriched me. The Premier League is the best even if the climate is not.”
Mancini has stated his interest in various Serie A-based players, in particular the in-form Napoli trio of Edinson Cavani, Ezequiel Lavezzi and Marek Hamsik.
The Italian boss has also made known his ambition for Champions League glory next season, and hopes the introduction of fresh blood can surge his side to victory.
He said: “I don’t want to make a guest appearance in the Champions League but to show we are there on merit and to be leaders.”
