Central PS Explains Diseases’ Reduction

CENTRAL Province Permanent Secretary Denny Lumbama has attributed the reduction of malaria, cholera and other diseases in the province to various interventions the Government has put in place.

Mr Lumbama said it was gratifying to see that Kabwe, Chibombo and Kapiri Mposhi districts, which were prone to outbreaks of cholera and experienced a heavy burden of malaria cases, had recorded a marked reduction of the diseases.

He paid tribute to the district and provincial management teams for working hard in ensuring lives were saved.

Speaking at Ibis Gardens in Chibombo on Tuesday during the launch of the mid-term expenditure framework (MTEF) 2012-2014 planning workshop, Mr Lumbama said the Government had committed itself to reducing incidents of malaria and cholera during the rainy season.

Mr Lumbama said the Government would continue putting in place interventions and programmes aimed at reducing the burden of diseases in line with the Millennium Development Goals.

He said the ministry had been implementing health sector reforms since 1992 with a focus on improving health service delivery, and were now bearing fruit.

The permanent secretary said he was happy that the 2012-2014 MTEF planning process would pay attention to community health planning as it intended to engage communities in management health services.

He urged the participants to come up with strategies and priority interventions in their action plans and assist in analysing bottlenecks experienced last year.
