Johan Elmander has hit out at his former Bolton Wanderers boss Owen Coyle claiming that he was played out of position too regularly to be a success at the club.

The Swede, who scored 18 goals for the Trotters, ran his contract down and has since joined Turkish giants Galatasaray on a free transfer.

He told Alingas Tidning of his time at the Greater Manchester side: “It was really tough.

“It is difficult when you think you are doing something well and then you get taken away from that position and placed somewhere where you can’t play.”

Elmander, however, was keen to stress that he did give his all to the team’s cause before his departure, despite being in an uncomfortable position.

“You have to do what is best for the team, and I tried to do that,” he continued.

“I thought I would be given another chance to prove myself, but I never did.”
