JTF Condemn Extortions of Motorist in Borno

Maiduguri — The Joint Task Force (JTF) code named Operation Restore Order in Borno state has decried alleged extortion of money from motorists by military personnel at various checkpoints saying any of its men found wanting would be sanctioned.

The JTF in a statement signed by Colonel Victor Ebhaleme on behalf of the Task Force, Commander, Major General Jack Okechukwu, also condemned the untold treatment allegedly meted out to members of the public by some security personal whom he described as ‘unscrupulous’.

Daily Trust had reported that there is mixed feelings in Maiduguri following the arrival of the JTF which comprises the Army, Navy, Air force, Police, Prison, Immigration and Customs who have mounted countless checkpoints and other security measures.

But the JTF command says they are in Maiduguri to restore order and not to cause disaffection among the general public.

The commander advised members of the public to cooperate with security agencies by giving out useful information that would enhance the activities of the security agencies in maintaining peace and security in the state.
