The 17th Nigeria National Sports Festival holding in Port Harcourt may suffer its first major set back this Friday as match officials for the games football event have threatened to down tools if their entitlements are not paid.

The match officials that include the referees and match commissioners were virtually stranded on Wednesday as officials of the Nigeria football federation could not pay them the money for their accommodation and feeding two days into the competition.

The aggrieved officials were told by the NFF representatives they were not in the know of what the organizers have in stock for them as they are in the dark of what and when they will be paid.

The NFF had earlier informed the invited match officials that their accommodation and feeding will be paid to them on arrival, but the story is different two days into the games.

The chairman of the Rivers state referees council, Mr Dokudo Dabo-ere had to come to the rescue of some of the stranded referees by providing accommodation for them with the understanding that he will be paid back the moment the organizers pay them.

After several hours of meetings on Wednesday it was resolved that unless their money was paid, the football event will not be part of the games starting from Friday.
