The minister for Finance and Economic Affairs has said that his ministry was not advised as to the availability of any proceeds or monetization of the Japanese grant.

Minister Mambury Njie was responding to a question from the NAM for Kiang Central who queried why the proceeds of the Japanese Aid, especially rice, was not captured in the receipt column of the 2010 and 2011 budgets respectively.

He said that as part of the preparation for each year’s budget, a call circular is sent to all ministries, departments and agencies asking them to submit all expenditure plans and receipts for the ensuring year. “This was done in the previous budget preparatory cycle and the relevant Ministry of Agriculture received the call circular. However, we did not receive any information on this matter. Hence, it was not in the budgets,” Finance Minister added.
