The number of entries for the IBM Golf Day is worrying hosts Limuru Country Club as they prepare to host the event this weekend. According to the Limuru golf captain, Ken Chege, over 200 golfers are expected to participate in the heavily over-subscribed tourney. “Limuru’s 18-hole golf course, one of the best in the country, is very capable of hosting over 200 golfers but our only request is for the golfers to arrive in time and tee-off at their allotted times,” Chege noted.
“IBM set extremely high standards when they hosted their corporate golf day at the Karen Country Club last year but we will be going all out to host an even better one.”
IBM golf days in Kenya are not only known for their high quality golf merchandise but also for their entertainment value. IBM’s Tony Mwai, said they expect the golf day at Limuru to live up to its billing. “At Karen in 2010, we had an invite list of our top partners totalling about 130. This time round, we will still have our partners but we will also be joined by members of the Limuru Country Club,” he said. “From what I have seen so far, over 200 golfers are drawn to play, which is a big field and we trust, weather permitting that they will all get to play and complete their rounds.”
Commenting on the popularity of the IBM golf days, Limuru’s vice chairman, Yassin Awale said IBM is focused on delivering great value at their events. “The IBM golf days have been consistent; the golf prizes have been excellent, the give-aways useful and unique and the entertainment is top class,” Awale said. “Over the years, IBM has demonstrated just how corporate golf days should be organised.”
Action at Limuru will kick off as early as 7:20am with the KOGL tournament director, Patrick Obath setting the pace in the company of CBK’s Walter Onyino and the NBK duo of Bob Kotonya and William Moturi.
IBM’s Tony Mwai will be joined by the Orange-Telkom CEO Mickael Ghossein for a 9:12am tee off while ICT board’s Victor Kyalo and Harry Mwangi will tee-off in the company of Deloitte’s Muchemi Wambugu and fitness guru Anne-Marie Murai. Davies Maina of TBM will tee off at 9am in the company of John Kiarie, Deward Mwako and Kanja Muchiru. The afternoon draw with slightly over 140 golfers is led by the IBM 4-ball of Pieter Loubser, Ockie Olivier, David Jackson and Jacob Thiell who are expected to fly in from South Africa for the event.
