Two Convicted of Criminal Offence

The Brikama Magistrates Court presided over by Magistrate Hilary Abeke on Monday 27th June 2011, sentenced two people namely; Daniel Sanyang and Kataba Manneh to pay a fine of D1, 500 each in default to serve one-year imprisonment each for the three counts of criminal offences ranging from conspiracy to commit felony; willful damage of property; and stealing, all contrary to the Laws of The Gambia.

The particulars of offence stated that on or about 26th September 2009 in Madina Salam Village, Kombo South District of West Coast Region, the two accused persons jointly stole four solar panels valued at D48, 000, being the property of one Mamut Ceesay, and thereby committed an offence. Investigation was mounted by the Gunjur Police Station and 250kr panel was recovered from the accused persons.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Fadera called four witnesses and tendered the recovered panel which was marked as exhibit. The accused persons accepted the exhibit and facts given by the witnesses.

In his ruling, the magistrate stated that the court found nothing on count 2 , which is willful damage of property, but found the accused persons guilty on count 1, conspiracy to commit felony and count 3, stealing.

He therefore sentenced the accused persons accordingly.
