Luanda — The senior males basketball team will get an additional monetary prize from the Angolan authorities if they win the African Cup, also dubbed Afrobasket2011, set for 17-28 August in Antananarivo, Madagascar, which gives access to the London Olympic Games.
The prize will be additional because it will come on top of what is legally established.
The information was given Tuesday by the Youth and Sports minister, Gonçalves Muandumba, during a meeting he held with the basketball delegation that will travel to Madagascar, having explained that the official prize for the team comes outlines on the Law Number 33/96, which also mentions that an extra prize can be agreed between the Sports Ministry and the Finance Ministry.
The minister reminded, however, that before anything else the players have to show commitment, humility and a sense of nation to win the competition.
The objective is to qualify for the London Olympic games, said the minister, but before we have to win in Antananarivo.
The national team will travel to Madagascar on 10 August, focussing on the first adversaries in Group B, which also includes Chad, Morocco and Senegal.
