Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas hints at new signings: There are a lot of interesting players in the market

Andre Villas-Boas has refused to comment on rumours of Chelsea making another move for Tottenham midfielder Luka Modric, but has confirmed that he has an eye on players to improve his new squad.

The former Porto coach is looking to weigh up the quality of his side before he starts making any decisions on changes which need to be made at Stamford Bridge.

When asked at his first press conference as Chelsea manager whether he would make a move for Modric, he said: “I’m not in a position to speculate on a player that doesn’t belong to the club. There are a lot of interesting players in the market but at the moment we are interested in having our players this morning.

“I shared this morning with my technical staff I can’t wait to start again on the sixth, so first I’ll let my people in and then we’ll make the decisions.”

Recently Modric has become strongly linked with Chelsea, with the Croatian even declaring that he wanted to leave White Hart Lane in favour of a move to Stamford Bridge.

However, Spurs boss Harry Redknapp and chairman Daniel Levy are adamant that Modric and other star players at the club will not be leaving this summer.

Chelsea have also been widely linked with a move for Brazilian starlet Neymar, whose club Santos revealed on Tuesday that five teams have met the player’s £40 million release clause, with the Blues believed to be one of them.
