Kampala — Rugby Cranes captain, Mathias Ochwo is among absentees from the team that will face Zimbabwe Sables in the return leg of the Victoria Cup on Saturday.
Ochwo bruised his rib in the final game of the Africa Cup Group 1B tournament against Madagascar at Kyadondo a fortnight ago. “I have not been able to train because the movement of my upper body is still not there,” Ochwo, a flanker, said while watching his teammates’ training last Friday.
Team management is yet to decide on a new skipper as his deputy Timothy Mudoola is also missing due to work commitments as Rugby Cranes look to overturn the 15-25 first leg deficit. A new captain will be named before travelling tomorrow morning.
Centre Tony Luggya, flanker Robert Seguya and fullback Simon Wakabi are also not in the team due to work-related issues whereas scrumhalf Brian Kikawa was dropped. The returning duo wing Allan Musoke and utility back Anthony Kinene withdrew from the team citing busy schedules as well.
All except Ochwo are expected to rejoin the team for the first leg of the Elgon Cup with Kenya next week in Nairobi. Bad luck struck Jude Keremundu, last year’s league MVP, when he suffered a broken thumb in training on Friday and is now set to miss the remaining three internationals. Scrumhalf Faisal Gamma has been recalled after being dropped for the Africa Cup. Backs Oscar Kalyango and Lawrence Wakabi, the two new faces, will start on the bench in Harare.
