Nairobi — A former senior police officer and a businessman have been blamed for the death of a former assistant minister’s son.
State counsel Job Kaigai on Tuesday urged Justice Mohammed Warsame to convict Mr Dickson Munene and Mr Alexander Chepkonga for the murder of Dr James Ng’ang’a Muiruri two years ago.
Mr Kaigai said Mr Chepkonga saw Mr Munene struggle with Dr Muiruri before a loud bhang.
But the defence urged the court to acquit the suspects, saying the deceased was violent and beat up patrons the night proceeding his death.
Justice Warsame heard that the suspects were at the scene of shooting and “they are to blame for the death.”
“Find the accused guilty as charged. We have testimony linking the two accused persons to the death of Dr James Ng’ang’a Muiruri against former inspector. They have both admitted they were at the scene of the killing,” Mr Kaigai said.
Mr Kaigai, who prosecuted the case jointly with Mr Victor Mule and Mr Eric Monda, said witnesses had told narrated how Dr Muiruri was killed.
He submitted that Mr Munene, jointly charged with Mr Chepkonga, shot the former Gatundu North MP Patrick Muiruri’s son.

The prosecutor told the court that the man died of injuries inflicted by gunshots.
“A case has been made out against Munene and Chepkonga. They are to blame for the death of Dr Muiruri,” the prosecutor said.
But defence lawyers Kioko Kilukumi and Cliff Ombeta for Mr Munene and Philip Murgor for Mr Chepkonga urged the judge to analyse the evidence and arrive at a finding that “the State has not proved the case against the accused to the required standard.”
