Jinja — Three officials of Jinja Municipality who were arrested by the IGG over embezzlement of taxpayers money have been granted bail.
The Principal Environment and Production Officer, Mr Ernest Nabihamba and a plant attendant, Mr Michael Kakonge, were arrested last week from Town Hall and whisked to Kampala. Eng. Dathan Wamuzibira, who had earlier escaped, later reported to the Central Police Station in Kampala and was produced in the Anti-Corruption Court on Friday.
The IGG Public Relations Officer, Ms Munira Ali, in a telephone interview said Mr Wamuzibira was charged with 16 counts ranging from false accounting to embezzlement of public funds. His bail request was pegged to Shs6 million cash which he could not pay on Friday and spent the weekend in detention until yesterday.
His two sureties were each bonded with Shs100 million non-cash by the presiding judge Justice Baguma.
Mr Nabihamba faces two charges while Mr Kakonge faces eight charges.
