Luanda — The late member of Angola’s ruling party’s Politburo secretary for international matters and MP, Paulo Teixeira Jorge, on Monday in Luanda was posthumously decorated by the President of East Timor, José Ramos Horta.
Paulo Teixeira Jorge passed away on 26 June 2010.
The Timorese president went to the national headquarters of the ruling MPLA, where he was received by members of the party’s leadership.
On the occasion, Ramos Horta considered the late Angolan nationalist a friend and a humanist who was always ready to listen the concerns of the people of East Timor.
The Timorese statesman handed over East Timor’s Order Award to the widow of the Angolan nationalist, Belém Jorge.
Meanwhile, Manuel Nunes Júnior, secretary for economic and social policies of the MPLA and acting vice president of the party, expressed his thanks for the decoration, considering it a result of the indestructible ties of friendship and solidarity between the two peoples.
He stressed that the homage is seen as equally extended to the MPLA and all Angolans.
Born in the central Benguela Province, Paulo Teixeira Jorge, joined the struggle against colonialism by affiliating himself to the MPLA, then a liberation movement, in which he actively and uninterruptedly militated for over 50 years.
