In-form Zanzibar’s Ocean View maintained their fairytale run in the Kagame Castle Cup Championship with a 2-0 win over Red Sea of Eritrea in a Group A match at the National Stadium yesterday.

The victory, the second for the Isles giants in two games, means they now lead the five-team group with six points, two ahead of second-placed Vital’O of Burundi.

Soccer fans at the ultra-modern venue had plenty of fun as both teams were impressive, though Ocean View appeared a more dangerous side whenever they had the ball.

Ocean View survived a scare in the 16th minute when a sizzling shot by Red Sea’s striker Abraham Tedrost was bravely parried off by goalkeeper Abbas Nassoro for abortive corner.

After a tight battle in the first 30 minutes, the game came into life in the 35th minute when Ocean View’s striker Suleiman Haji broke the stalemate with a sizzling shot after he was set up by Mohamed Hamduni.

Ocean View ought to have gone two up just after the hour mark when unmarked Said Rashid, with only goalkeeper Daniel Goitom to beat, saw his feebly taken shot easily cleared by the goalie.

Red Sea suffered a blow in the 77th minute when Aaron Zekarias was red carded for elbowing midfielder Salum Shebe. The second goal for the Zanzibar champions came in the 86th minute through Said Rashid whose tricky shot went straight into the yawning net, leaving goalkeeper Goitom flatfooted. In their first match, Ocean View edged out Enticelles of Rwanda 3-2 on Saturday at the same venue. In yesterday’s other match, Vital’O of Burundi thumped Enticelles 3-1 at the same venue.

Red Sea: Daniel Goitom, Biniam Fissemaye, Isaias Tekle, Flimon Tsegay, Temesgen Asefaw, Yacob Tetkle, Daniel Ogbagebriel, Aaron Zekarias, Abraham Tedros, Idris Ismael and Yakob Amanuel.
