Four local entities have been issued with air carrier licenses by the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) to operate domestic and regional flights starting September this year, B&FT has gathered. The four Ghanaian registered carriers whose names were not quickly made known to the B&FT are said to have already eyed the west-coast of the sub-region, where there is a grey market for new entrants to the aviation industry to ply their trade

The National Health Insurance Authority will on Tuesday, 28 June 2011 and Wednesday, 29 June 2011, holds its 2011 Annual NHIS Stakeholders Forum on the theme: “Building Stakeholder Consensus towards Quality & Sustainability.”

This year’s program builds on past events, and will discuss ways to consolidate the gains and improvements in the NHIS since its inception.

The two-day event, which is expected to be opened by the Minister of Health, will engage invited guests and stakeholders, drawn from accredited service providers, the Ministry of Health, International Development Partners, Civil Society, Subscribers, etc in discussions aimed at further enhancing the operations of the scheme, which is fast becoming a model of Social Health Insurance in Africa and beyond.

Features of the forum would include a presentation on the NHIS draft strategic plan, a progress report on the Authority’s cost containment measures and capitation, and a discussion on trends and innovations on targeting the poor within the NHIS by the World Bank.

The forum comes at a time when the National Health Insurance Authority has been credited in some circles with improved transparency and a positive change in leadership style, and described as having a high impact on Ghanaians.

Amongst others, claims processing and payment time has been significantly reduced in recent times, while a clinical audit process, which was started in 2010, has seen a reduction in abuse and error, recovering millions of Ghana Cedis for the NHIS.
