Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis insists he would not sell Edinson Cavani for £89 million following reports that Manchester United were interested in the striker.

The Italian side moved to offer him a better deal last month after he signed a contract keeping him at the club until 2015. The Uruguayan has also been linked with Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham in recent months.

De Laurentiis has now underlined his position further by insisting it would be virtually impossible to sell the Uruguayan.

“They would have to revoke my president’s licence if I sold Cavani for less than €100m £89m,” he told Radio Marte.

“Plus, he would have to be annoyed as he is not worth that little. He is worth much more than what those in England have been writing.”

The 24-year-old enjoyed a sensational maiden season at Napoli following his move from Palermo, scoring 26 goals in 35 games.
