Liverpool’s Fabio Aurelio: Copa America is important for Brazil

Liverpool full-back Fabio Aurelio feels that the new generation of Brazil will face an important test when they compete in the Copa America tournament.

The World Cup travels to the South American nation in 2014, which means that Mano Menezes’ men will not be playing qualifiers due to an automatic qualification into the competition.

The former Valencia defender now feels that the tournament in Argentina now has an added significance, as he told LFC Weekly: “I think the Copa America is viewed like the Euros here. It is very important for all the national teams but especially for Brazil as we won’t have any qualifying games for the next World Cup because we are hosts.

“Therefore the team won’t have so many opportunities to prepare for that tournament so the Copa America will be a great opportunity to see how the team is faring. People are already looking forward to the World Cup in 2014 so the Copa America is very exciting and I am very much looking forward to it.”

Brazil begin their Copa America campaign against Venezuela on July 3, in a group that also has Ecuador and Paraguay.
