Borussia Monchengladbach have postponed Manchester United striker Joshua King‘s planned loan move to the Bundesliga after the 19-year-old picked up a groin injury.
The decision comes after it was confirmed that the Norwegian would require surgery on the muscle strain he picked up in early June in an Under-21 international match against Sweden.
King will need to reach full fitness by August, otherwise the transfer to Monchengladbach will be cancelled.
The club’s sporting director Max Eberl has spoken about King’s injury, and is unsure whether the youngster will be fit enough in August for the deal to be resumed.
“We will have to see how long it takes for King to return from injury and whether it makes sense to loan him,” Eberl told the club’s official website.
“It is no good if he is out for weeks or even months. Our medical department is in contact with the doctors at Manchester United. The information the doctors give us will decide whether the transfer occurs or not.”
Gladbach are currently at a training camp in Bad Worishofen where the squad are preparing for the 2011-12 Bundesliga campaign.
