East Africa: All Set for Cecafa Kagame Cup

THE battle for top honours in this year’s East and Central Africa Club Championship, Kagame Castle Cup, is all but set to start as teams have already started arriving in Dar es Salaam ahead of the coveted regional championship.

Vital’O of Burundi are already in the city acclimatizing ready for their much-anticipated encounter against hosts Simba, which will be one of the opening two matches on Saturday.

Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) Information officer, Boniface Wambura, said other teams, Elman FC of Somalia, Ocean View of Zanzibar and Sudan’s El Merreikh, were expected to arrive on Thursday in the afternoon.

The tournament will be played in two centres of Dar es Salaam and Morogoro in which the former will have groups A and B teams while the latter will host group C teams.

Group A teams are Simba (Tanzania), Vital’O (Burundi), Etincelles (Rwanda) and Ocean Boys (Zanzibar) while group B has Yanga (Tanzania), El Merreikh (Sudan), Bunamwaya SC (Uganda) and Elman FC of Somalia. Group C, whose matches will take place at the Jamhuri Stadium in Morogoro, has APR (Rwanda), St. George (Ethiopia), Ulinzi (Kenya) and Ports (Djibouti).

Etincelles will meet Ocean View in the opening match at 2pm before the Simba versus Vital’O match while Yanga will kick off their campaign by playing El Merreikh on Sunday.

TFF on Thursday issued out entrance fees , in which the highest will be 15,000/- while the lowest is set at 1,000/-.

Wambura, said entrance fees for the Dar es Salaam centre, whose matches will take place at the National Stadium, will be 15,000/- for VIP A seats, 10,000/- and 7,000/- for VIP B and VIP C seats respectively.

“Orange seats will cost 5,000/- each, while blue and green seats’ fee will be 3,000/- and 2,000/- respectively. The lowest entrance fee, to be paid when Simba and Yanga are not in action, will be 1,000/-,” he said.

He said the entrance fees for the Morogoro centre will be 5,000/- for the main stand and 1,000/- for the rest of the stadium.

He further said the physical fitness test for the tournament’s referees is expected to take place at the National Stadium on Friday.

The referees are Gebremichael Lulesghed (Eritrea), Dilicho Sherefa (Ethiopia), Sylvester Kirwa (Kenya), Wiish Yabarow (Somalia), Hussein El Fadil (Sudan), Israel Mujuni (Tanzania), Ronnie Kalema (Uganda) and Ibada Kombo (Zanzibar). Assistant referees are Charles Nizigiyimana (Burundi), Egue Yassen Hassan (Djibouti), Mussie Kinde (Ethiopia), Brasan Mamati (Kenya), Simba Honore (Rwanda), Ahmed Waleed (Sudan), Samwel Mpenzu (Tanzania) and Mark Ssonko (Uganda).
