The police have arraigned two salesgirls before an Abuja Magistrate for allegedly misappropriating goods worth N167,750 from their employer’s shop.
Regina Awokunle, 32, and Favour Anajemba, 24, were arraigned for joint acts, criminal breach of trust and cheating, offences contrary to Sections 79, 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.
Prosecutor Francis Tanko informed the court that on June 13, the complainant, Sola Olukoju of Wuse Market Abuja, reported at Wuse Police Station that she employed the accused persons as sales girls to take care of her shops sometime in January this year.
He said that the complainant handed over the key of her shop to the first accused person, Regina Awokunle, to take care of it while travelling abroad but on her return, she discovered that goods worth N167,750 were missing, adding that during police investigation, Regina confessed that she handed over the shop key to the second accused person, Favour Anajemba, for two days.
When the charge was read to the accused persons, they all pleaded not guilty and the prosecutor asked for a hearing date.
Chief Magistrate Azubuike Okeagu granted the accused bail in the sum of N200,000 with two reliable sureties, who must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
The case was adjourned to July 4 for hearing.
