Aston Villa
are interested in acquiring the services of Bolton Wanderers goalkeeper Ali Al-Habsi, according to The Daily Mail.

The Oman international is also wanted by Wigan Athletic, where he was impressive on loan during the course of last season.

His performances saw the Latics indicate their interest in a permanent move for the shot stopper, but the Trotters are holding firm on their £4 million price-tag.

Wigan chairman Dave Whelan recently admitted that they had lodged a £3m bid, which would be their final offer to sign the ‘keeper.

Now the reports that Villa are ready to capitalise on the stalling in negotiations and meet the Trotters’ valuation of the player.

Al-Habsi had maintained in May that he would prefer to make a move away from Bolton, since Jussi Jaaskelainen’s presence would see him playing infrequently at the Reebok Stadium next year.
