Nnamdi Oduamadi
Nigeria Under-23 forward Nnamdi Oduamadi has rejoined the team and is already looking ahead of Saturday’s All Africa Games qualifier against Ghana.
The AC Milan player on Monday limped off during the team’s training session at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City and looked set to miss the first leg tie against the Black Meteors, thus joining midfielder Rabiu Ibrahim who had earlier been ruled out of the encounter.
A visit to the treatment tables in Lagos has however paid off for the skilful forward and he believes he now has a realistic chance of featuring against Nigeria’s fierce rivals on Saturday.
“Yes, I am rested and fully ready for the game against the Black Meteors,” declared Oduamadi on Thursday in Benin on his arrival from Lagos.
Oduamadi was not the only player to hit Nigeria’s camp on Thursday as Israel-based Agboola Babalola also joined the squad, thus swelling the number of players in camp to 22.
The defender who plays for Israeli club side, Sakhnin is a new entrant to the team and was called up by coach Austin Eguavoen following the inability of Nurudeen Orelesi to rejoin the team in Benin.
“I am glad to be here. I have been looking forward to an opportunity to play for my fatherland,” said an elated Babalola.
Orelesi left camp to finalize contract negotiations in Europe and remains doubtful for the game against Ghana.
It is a similar scenario for midfielder Lukman Haruna who is in Ukraine trying to tie up a deal with Dynamo Kiev following Monaco’s relegation from the French top flight.
He then added: “Now that I have found it, I will put in my best if am called upon by the coach.”
On a brighter note, forward Ganiyu Oseni resumed training on Thursday.
The Vietnam-based player suffered shin blisters in last weekend’s 3-0 win over Tanzania and joins the likes of Obiora Nwankwo and Eneji Otekpa who returned to the training ground on Wednesday.
“I am now fit, the blisters have healed,” declared Oseni, before adding, “I cannot wait to join my colleagues (in Thursday’s training session).”
