K12 Billion Mkushi Hospital On Course

CONSTRUCTION of a modern hospital in Mkushi District at a cost of K12 billion by the Government has reached an advanced stage.

Central Province Permanent Secretary Denny Lumbama, who recently undertook a tour of development projects in the province, said it was Government’s desire to ensure that health facilities were accessible to local people.

Mr Lumbama said the hospital would add value to the lives of the people of Mkushi and reduce on the distances they travelled to seek medical attention.

He said a healthy population was important for the country’s economic growth and that construction of hospitals and health posts would contribute towards saving of lives.

He praised the contractor for efficiency and commitment to duty which had seen phase one, which includes a maternity wing, theatre, laundry, wards, and kitchen, almost complete.

He said the Government would ensure those awarded contracts to build infrastructure such as roads carried out quality work.

And chief engineer for African Brothers Corporation, Xu Feng assured the Government that construction of phase one of the hospital would be completed by August this year.

He said the project was ahead of schedule and that his firm would ensure it maintained quality works because it wanted Zambians to get value for the money spent on the construction.

Senior Chief Mboroma of the Lala and Swaka people in Mkushi praised the Government’s decision to build the hospital, saying it would save people’s lives.

He said since independence the district had never had a modern hospital, forcing residents to take their sick relatives to either Kabwe or Kapiri Mposhi for specialist treatment.
