Windhoek — Fraud suspect Esmerelda Majiedt’s bail hearing continued in the Windhoek Magistrate Court yesterday.
On Wednesday, the state called the Chief Human Resources practitioner at Ohorongo Cement Elina Nashixwa to testify as a state witness. Nashixwa informed the court that the position of logistics was advertised, to which Majiedt applied. She declared that she did not have any criminal convictions.
She added that Majiedt was provided with a form of disclosure, which asked her if she had any prior convictions a month after she was hired, but she did not return it.
But “other candidates gave it back”, Nashixwa said.
The witness went on to say that at the time, there were newspaper reports that accused her of being involved in the AfriSam fraud.
Advocate Botes then asked Nashixwa to provide the court with the copy of the disclosure form and a copy of the contract. Court was adjourned, and the trial continues.
Last week, Majiedt denied that the reasons why she left Ohorongo Cement on March 17 this year was because she allegedly declined to complete a form on which she had to answer questions about previous convictions.
Majiedt joined the cement company on February 1 after she left AfriSam. She informed the court that she did not apply, but was headhunted.
She is accused of manipulating her former employer’s accounting system and created fictitious payments to have truckloads of cement released. ACC officers nabbed her on April 4.
