Wolves owner Steve Morgan says he and manager Mick McCarthy will be focusing on acquiring home-grown British talent this summer.

The chairman conceded that the club have had a better success rate in recent years with home-grown players than foreign imports, and that transfer policy would be adjusted accordingly.

“We do seem to have had better success with home-grown British and Irish players,” he told the Express and Star.

“It’s probably a formula we will stick to.

“That’s not to say we won’t sign more foreign players. But having that core of a British and Irish base is the right thing for Wolves.”

The club have so far signed one English player this summer, former Tottenham midfielder Jamie O’Hara for a club record £5 million fee, as well as Dutch goalkeeper Dorus de Vries on a free transfer from newly-promoted Swansea.

And Morgan feels there may not need to be too many more additions to the squad.

“What we need is one or two key additions, not wholesale changes,” he explained.

If reports are to be believed, an established central defender may be one of those key targets, with Wolves having conceded 66 goals last season.
