Feyenoord to make ‘considered decision’ on new loan deal for Arsenal starlet Ryo Miyaichi

Feyenoord technical director Martin van Geel says the Dutch club are mulling over whether to bring Arsenal’s Ryo Miyaichi back to Rotterdam on loan despite indicating earlier this month they would “love” to keep him.

The 18-year-old Japanese winger dazzled the Feyenoord fans in a six-month loan stint from the Gunners during the latter half of the 2010-11 season, scoring three goals and providing four assists.

Earlier this month, van Geel told Voetbal International: “We would love to have him here on loan for a year. Arsenal know we are good for him. Now we can only wait for their answer.”

However, the Feyenoord technical director has now changed his tune, as he is worried about limiting first-team opportunities for the club’s own young players.

“Ryo has definitely been of great value to us,” he told the same source.

“The lad has done very well with us, but we also have to look at our own players.

“In Sekou Cisse and Jerson Cabral we have two players able to work just as well as Ryo in the same position – we cannot turn a blind eye to that.

“Therefore we will go through everything and then make a considered decision whether it is wise to bring in Ryo.”

Miyaichi’s parent club Arsenal may be forced to farming out the Japanese youngster due to issues relating to obtaining a work permit in the United Kingdom.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger told reporters last month: “Ryo Miyaichi will be with us in pre-season.

“We will see if he is ready for us and ask for a work permit – we are hugely impressed.”
