New Wolves signing Dorus De Vries has revealed his anticipation for the upcoming season and the goalkeeping competition at Molineux following his move from Premier League newcomers Swansea City.

De Vries, who became a free agent at the end of Swansea’s successful Championship-playoff, has signed a three year contract with Wolves and is seen as a possible replacement for the newly departed Marcus Hahnemann.

Speaking to Wolves’ official website, De Vries said: “I’m really pleased and positive about the move. As soon as I got the call from Wolves I had a really good vibe about it and a positive feeling.”

The move from Liberty Stadium to Molineux is very much a change of pace for keeper. Over the past four seasons at Swansea, De Vries missed only six games and played in all 49 matches of the team’s Championship campaign.

However, the situation at Wolves is quite different, with De Vries, Wayne Hennessey and Carl Ikeme set to compete for the No.1 upon the Dutchman’s arrival, but it seems that the new signing is embracing the competition.

He stated: “This is a totally different challenge for me. At Swansea I have been number one for a couple of years now having three great seasons and seeing the club go from League One up to the Premier League.”

He continued: “I thought this would be the fresh step I need in terms of progressing. Sometimes as a professional football player you have to get out of your comfort zone a little bit to be able to find your true potential.”

Although excited about his move, De Vries did express his difficulty in leaving the Welsh club, but revealed that ambition was a major factor in his departure.

“Wolves are going into a third season in the top division and as I’ve said to my family, the difference for me is that while Swansea will hope to maintain their Premier League status, Wolves will expect to survive,” he said.

“Swansea is a club which I’m sure can grow into the Premier League but at Wolves that experience is already there with most of the players having been in the league for at least two years.

“The Premier League is the place to be. As a boy I always dreamed about playing in the biggest league and this is my possibility.”
