Mbale — The Nile Special National Open Pool championship picked up momentum over the weekend with more players storming the grand finale slated for August, 27 at Lugogo.

Onito Ssebi shocked top seed Ibrahim Sentamu 4-2 in a hotly contested final while Musa Setiliba edged Nash Karanja 2-1 for third slot at Mayfair, Jinja. “I was confident going into this game and played cautiously to overcome a dominant opponent in Jinja,” said Ssebi.

In Mbale, Badru Ssembatya cruised past Ali Dodi while Henry Dhakaba reached the final after beating Peter Wakabi. Dr Joseph Epodoi, Sam Ecumu and Eric Epula qualified from Soroti.

The finals will see 128 players converge at Lugogo to vie for the grand prize of Shs2.5m and a Pool table for the eventual champion. The Nile Breweries-sponsored tournament has already seen qualifiers being played in Kampala East, Northern and Kampala Central.
