Manchester City outcast Emmanuel Adebayor has emerged as a target for Zenit St. Petersburg, according to the Guardian.

The Togo international was shipped out on loan to Real Madrid last season, where he scored five times in 14 La Liga appearances.

That came just two years after he was signed from Arsenal for a reported £25 million, with the player scoring 15 Premier League goals for Roberto Mancini’s side since his move.

The report states that Zenit’s interest in the striker is the major enquiry they have had for the striker and they are now awaiting a bid to follow up initial enquiries.

City will be looking to balance the books this season as Uefa’s new financial fair play rules are introduced and with Adebayor being one of the club’s top earners, he will be a big removal from the wage-bill.

Adebayor began his career at Metz in France. He joined Monaco in 2003 and was part of the team that went all the way to the Champions League final before moving to the Gunners in January 2006.

With Adebayor’s loan at Madrid now over, he faces stiff competition for a starting place at City from the likes of Carlos Tevez, Edin Dzeko, Mario Balotelli, Jo and fellow loanees from last season Craig Bellamy and Roque Santa Cruz.
