Adebayor Set For Tumultuous Charity Welcome In Ghana

Striker Emmanuel Adebayor wants to solve water problems in Hamile and Ko

Striker Emmanuel Adebayor will arrive in the Upper West Region of Ghana on Wednesday to commission two boreholes to solve the age-long water problems of two needy towns.

Thousands are expected at the small airport in Wa, the capital of the the region, where he will land before heading to the towns.

The Manchester City attacker will be accompanied by the Ghana FA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi to launch the project that will bring a huge relieve to the people of Hamile and Ko.

Women and children in the two towns have to walk five miles each day to a river to fetch water for their daily chores, cooking and washing.

After consulting with the Ghana FA boss, Adebayor decided to end the punishing daily water-search for the people of the two towns.

“Football can be used as a force for good and as Adebayor has decided on this I am giving him my full support to carry out this project,” Nyantakyi said.

“This will encourage others – not only footballers- but also those blessed to go out there and help the needy.”

This comes just one week after the striker spent US$200,00 in northern Togo to solve similar problems in Sorkodie.

A grand durbar of the chiefs in the region will be held in honour of Adebayor later on in the day before a friendly match to honour him.

Meanwhile, students in primary and junior high school in the region have vowed not to attend classes today just to catch a glimpse of the striker.

Teachers and parents will struggle to rein them in.
