Over 1,200 participants drawn from 29 countries across the world are expected to take part in this year’s Safaricom Lewa Marathon at Lewa Conservancy next weekend. The full marathon (42Km) has attracted 227 participants while the half marathon (21Km) will feature 957 runners. Over 140 kids are also expected to take part.

The event yesterday got boost with leading internet infrastructure builder, Seacom donating Sh0.5million towards the event. “We are grateful that apart from being close industry partners with Seacom, they have come forward to support our running cause in Lewa,” said Safaricom Enterprise Business General Manager Sylvia Mulinge while receiving the donation from Seacom sales account manager for East and North Africa Michael Otieno. “We look forward to a more interactive working relationship going forward.”

The marathon has gained reputation for being one of the 10 toughest marathon events in the world for it is held on a rough terrain and under harsh climatic conditions. Last year’s event raised a record Sh37 million.
