Tottenham midfielder Steven Pienaar has admitted he is looking forward to the challenge of facing his former club Everton in the first game of the Premier League season.

The Premier League fixtures were announced last week with Pienaar facing off against his former employers for the first time since his move to Spurs in January.

The South African international spent four years with the Merseyside club before moving on and he admits that it will be interesting facing his old club.

He told the Tottenham’s official website: “It will be the first time I’ve faced Everton since moving to Spurs, I’m looking forward to it and I hope we take all three points to get a positive start to the season.

“It’s always difficult when you face your old club but you have to stay focused.

“It’s a game that will test you mentally because you know all the players, the staff and what that club is all about.

“It’s the first game of the season and our supporters will want us to go all-out, especially at home.

“For us though, the key is to be patient, open them up and when we do, make sure we take our chances.”
