Porto have denied that Chelsea have matched the £13.2 million buyout clause in manager Andre Villas-Boas’s contract.
Reports in Portugal had earlier suggested Villas-Boas was already on his way to London to finalise terms on a deal to replace Carlo Ancelotti at Stamford Bridge, claiming that owner Roman Abramovich had agreed to pay Porto the necessary compensation.
But in a statement released to the Portuguese stock exchange, the Europa League champions denied receiving any such approach from the west Londoners or anyone else for their manager, although they did reaffirm the existence of the release clause.
“Futebol Clube do Porto, SAD, at the request of CMVM, come to inform the market that coach Andre Villas-Boas, just like several players in the squad, has a release clause,” the statement read.
“Up to this date, this society has not yet received any information that this clause would be triggered.”
