Committee to Protect Journalists (New York) 17 June 2011 press release New York — The Committee to Protect Journalists condemns the detention of a German television crew and the destruction of their footage by authorities in Equatorial Guinea. On Saturday, plainclothes state security agents led by Teobaldo Nchaso Matomba, the director of the state-controlled broadcaster TVGE, arrested reporter Jorg Brase, cameraman Michael Berger, camera assistant Stanley Oriaro, and their fixer (identified only as "Robert") while they were filming a concert at the French cultural center in Malabo, ZDF producer Christine Otieno told CPJ. The ZDF crew was taken to TVGE's studios, where security agents and Matomba ordered them to hand over all their video footage, the broadcaster said in a statement

About 100 athletes have been invited to attend the lifestyle management training to be held on June 22 at Noble Conference Centre in Eldoret. The event meant to enlighten athletes on social and economic issues, is organised by Keino Sports Marketing. According to the Keino Sports Marketing director Martin Keino, the training aims at giving direction to young athletes in as far as their earnings are concerned. “Lately sad cases of athletes being overwhelmed in their personal life and turning to drugs and alcohol have emerged and our aim is to advise them accordingly,” Keino said.

Lifestyle specialist and retired athletes will be among the key speakers during the event. Issues revolving around wealth management, self care and stress management, career planning and communication skills, will feature prominently. Two-time Boston marathon winner Moses Tanui, world 3,000m record holder Daniel Komen, Japhet Kimutai, and Patrick Sang are among the retired athletes who have been invited. “Most athletes come from poor families and when they strike success and big money, they squander it because they lack certain skills to manage it,” he added. Keino said they are targeting young athletes since they are the victims in most cases.
