VISITING Sofapaka fought to a barren draw with Western Stima in an action packed mouth watering Kenya Premier League encounter full of tension at Bukhungu stadium, Kakamega yesterday. Sofapaka, determined to collect maximum points, created but wasted as many chances as did the hosts.
Sofapaka coach Francis Kimanzi said his boys ought to have won the game and claimed they were denied a clear goal in the first half. He however, had no other complaints about the handling of the match. “I saw a goal which my boys were denied. The draw is not bad but it only favours those who have been assisted,” said Kimanzi.
Stima tactician Henry Omino was contented with the draw but said his side would have won the encounter were it not for the numerous chances they wasted. He said the game provided his boys good preparation as they wait to play Ulinzi Stars in the Top Eight tournament.”The draw was not bad considering the team we were playing. I want to win my last first leg match against Rangers so I finish the first round with 25 points,” he said.
Daniel Onyango missed Wesley Kemboi’s glancing left flank cross which would have put the power men ahead in the seventh minute. That miss was replicated by the visitor’s a minute later when Bob Mugalia looped the ball over advancing Stima keeper David Juma but utility player Kevin Amwayi headed it out before it could cross the line.
In the 14th minute, James Situma headed over from Mugalia’s cross as Stima soaked pressure in the first half. Patrick Kagogo picked a lose ball from the left flank after Stima’s George Wesa missed to clear and floated in across but it went out untouched in the 28th minute.
