Over 27,000 mosquito nets await distribution to residents of Nambale district in the wake of an upsurge of malaria in the region. Area Public Health Officer Stephen Anjeche, who was presenting his report during a district executive committee forum at Nambale district headquarters, yesterday said that logistics are in place to ensure that each household is issued with a mosquito net as registration has already been done. Anjeche said the process will begin on June 28, before which another lot will have been received.
He said one net would be given to every two people in a household to reduce multi-sharing. He urged the locals to dispose of their old nets. The officer decried cases where residents are given free nets only to sell them at cheap prices. Others use the nets for fencing to prevent chickens from entering their farms. He said the law will soon catch up with those selling the nets.
