Nigeria Signs Security Pact With US

    NIGERIA has signed an In-flight security agreement with the United States of America.  The agreement will involve the deployment of in – flight Security officers/Air Marshals.

    The Director General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, Dr. Harold Demuren signed on behalf of Nigeria while John W. Halinski, Assistant Administrator, Office of Global Strategies, Transport Security Administration (TSA) of America signed on behalf of the United States.

    The agreement was signed recently at the Transport Security Administration (TSA Headquarters, Arlington, Virginia, USA, in the presence of the Nigerian Ambassador to the United States, Professor Adefuye.

    The reason for the agreement is to curb terrorism onboard flights to the U.S. The use of Air Marshals, plain cloth security personnel, has been on since after September 11 when terrorism through the hijack of passenger plane took a different dimension.
