Newcastle’s new signing Demba Ba has expressed his delight at joining the club and cannot wait to begin playing for Alan Pardew’s side.

The 26-year-old completed a three-year deal to St James’ Park on Friday from West Ham.

The Senegal striker has opted to remain in the Premier League with a move to Tyneside after the Hammers were relegated last season.

Asked why he decided to join Newcastle, Ba said according to Sky Sports News: “First of all, because of the team they have this season.

“With the new signing from last week, Yohan Cabaye and all the players they have, it is a really interesting challenge.

“Coming to Newcastle, a big club, that was the reason why I made this move.

“I can’t wait to start playing here. I am very excited.

“I have never played here. I came to West Ham a couple of days after they played here against Newcastle.

“I can’t wait to start playing here and see how good the stage is.”

Ba demonstrated his scoring ability during the second half of last season’s campaign at West Ham with seven goals in 13 appearances, and is determined to continue the momentum.

“The only way to keep that level is to work hard, so I’m going to work hard to keep that average I had at West Ham.

“As soon as I step on the pitch in football my ambition is to get those three points.

“I’m just going to keep on doing this and if we win as many games as possible I’ll be happy.”
