The Daily Observer (Banjul) Hatab Fadera 17 June 2011 The Gambian leader has expressed confidence that he will score a landslide victory at the forthcoming presidential elections, saying that his party, the ruling Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction (APRC) will teach the opposition a lesson in the November 24th polls. His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya Jammeh, who alongside the First Lady of the Republic, Her Excellency Madam Zeineb Yahya Jammeh registered to acquire their first-ever biometric voters' card was speaking Thursday afternoon at State House in Banjul during an interview with journalists.

The Gambian leader, His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya Jammeh Thursday afternoon received in audience at State House in Banjul the Brazilian ambassador to the Gambia.

Her Excellency Maria Elisa De Luna, who presented her letters of credentials to the Gambian leader at the end of last year, was this time at the seat of the presidency to convey her president’s message to her Gambian counterpart.

Speaking to the State House press corps, Ambassador De Luna said she was at the presidency to deliver President Dilma Vana Rousseff, the first Brazilian female president’s letter of gratitude to President Jammeh for the support Brazil received from The Gambia in many of the Latin American country’s international causes.

The Brazilian envoy also told journalists that her meeting with the Gambian leader was also meant to ‘verify the important date’ for the Joint Commission between the two countries.

Ambassador De Luna also said The Gambia and Brazil have various areas of mutual interest, with both countries having many ways of cooperating. He concluded by asserting that Brazil is a friend of the Gambia, while describing her closed-door meeting the Gambian leader as positive.
