LAGOS-One Alice Sunday, has been arraigned before a Lagos State High Court for alleged murder. She was alleged to have poisoned  her boy friend, one Anthony Benbiwe, who later died in a private hospital in Lagos.

According to the charge preferred against the 23 old-lady, she was said to have “on or about November 16, 2008 at Takwa Bay Village, Victoria Island, Lagos in the Lagos Judicial Division did murdered one Anthony Benbiwe by poisoning him.”

She pleaded not guilty to the charge. The offence is contrary to Section 319 (1) of the Criminal Code Law, Cap C17, Vol 2, Laws of Lagos State, 2003.

The trial judge in the matter, Justice E. Adebajo, expressed dissatisfaction with the way the accused dressed, which was more like an Arab, wondering if the accused was indeed bearing the name ‘Alice Sunday.’

The judge said, “does this person ‘Alice Sunday’ exist? This person here (looking at the accused in the dock) is dressed like an Arab woman and the name before me is Alice Sunday, Sunday being the second name.” Vanguard gathered that the accused was allegedly infuriated with the deceased, who had dumped her after promising to marry her.
