The Badminton Federation of Nigeria (BFN) on Tuesday said it would no longer participate in the Mauritius International but would attend Kenya International Championships this month.
The Mauritius International Tournament, used for ranking of African players, was scheduled to hold from June 16 to June 19.
The Kenya International will take place between June 23 and June 26.
BFN secretary Amaechi Akawo told NAN in Lagos that Nigeria opted for the Kenya event because it would be used for world ranking of the players.
He also said that the period between the two competitions was too short, leaving the federation with the option of choosing one.
Akawo said the federation had the money to attend the two competitions.
“We decided to go for Kenya International instead of Mauritius International due the short period between the two championships not because we do not have the funds.
“Moreover, the Kenya competition will be used for world rankings,” he said.
Akawo said the contingent to the competition, comprising 12 players and two officials, would depart the country aboard on June 20.
He expressed the hope that Nigeria would have a good outing in Kenya, adding that the players were already in intensive training.
