Manchester United‘s Wes Brown is set to start a defensive merry-go-round that could see Gary Cahill move to Manchester City – according to the Manchester Evening News.
Brown has been the subject of a £12 million bid from Sunderland along with his Manchester United team-mates Darron Gibson and John O’Shea.
Reports suggest that the defender’s relationship with boss Sir Alex Ferguson broke down towards the end of last season after an alleged argument between the two.
However Brown has appeared to turn down the move to Wearside due to him being against the idea of him moving his family away from Cheshire, leading Black Cats manager Steve Bruce to pursue other targets.
This has alerted Bolton manager Owen Coyle to the defender’s availability and is said to be preparing a bid for the England International who is rated by United at around £5m.
The potential signing of Brown could open up a transfer for Gary Cahill away from the Reebok Stadium with Manchester City leading the race to sign the former Aston Villa man.
Brown managed just 15 appearances last season the majority of which came in the cup competitions where Ferguson tended to rest his senior players.
Meanwhile Gibson looks set to agree a deal at the Stadium of Light whereas O’Shea is thought to be considering his options.
